The Swiss firm of Mikron are best known for their gear hobbing machines, but were also the main competitors to Schaublin for the small lathe and milling machine market during the 1930s, 50s and 60s. While they are still in business, Mikron have not produced instrument maker’s lathes and mills since the 60s. However, they produced their larger milling machines up to the late 1980s. Mikron machine tools are in my opinion possibly the finest made in Switzerland, however they do not have the overall flexibility and ease of use of those made by Schaublin or Aciera.
